ENI’s Mega Egypt Discovery Estimate ‘Conservative’

Thursday, September 10, 2015

With all the recent brouhaha regarding ENI’s massive natural gas discovery offshore Egypt, the government is promoting the whole area for natural gas exploration in an attempt to solve its energy crisis.

In an interview in the Daily News Egypt the country’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Sherif Ismail, said that Edison, Total, BP, RWE, and Kuwait Energy are all currently working to discover gas in Egypt’s deep Mediterranean waters.

With the recent statement by ENI’s chief executive, Claudio Descalzi, to a senate hearing in Rome that the estimate of 30 Tcf of natural gas from its most recent discovery offshore Egypt was “conservative” and could be raised, there is a good chance that other firms searching for gas in the area could strike it big also.

More companies will join the exploration game in Egypt soon as there is currently a licensing round in progress, with blocks being offered in various parts of the country.
