According to recent reports the European Union may look to Algeria for additional natural gas as it looks to diversify its supplies. Long standing with tensions with Russia have historically led European nations to look to North Africa for alternative supplies.
According to a recent report in London’s Financial Times, France, Spain and Portugal were looking to seal a deal that would increase imports of Algerian gas that would ultimately be diverted through the much politically beleaguered MidCat pipeline through the Pyrenees.
