EU Reopens Halliburton/Baker Hughes Deal

Friday, April 15, 2016

The Halliburton buy out of Baker Hughes is once again under scrutiny of EU competition regulators. The European Commission had halted its review of the deal until more details were received by the companies.

The EU competition regulators have expressed concerns over the deal reducing competition, as it is only Schlumberger that out ranks both firms in terms of size and market cap and even a combined Halliburton/Baker Hughes is still a few billion short of its closest competitor.

Last week the US DoJ filed a lawsuit to put a halt to the merger.
