Exploration Contracts to be Signed in Mozambique

The government of Mozambique revealed that the contracts for the winners of the fifth licensing round must be signed by the consortia selected and the government before the first week of October. The announcement was made by Carlos Zacarias, chairman of the petroleum regulatory body.According to details from the Portuguese news agency Lusa, the contracts would be signed between the end of September and the first week of October, “with specific dates to analyze.”

Last August the terms of the oil exploration contracts for five concessions, put on the auction block in 2014, in the Center and the North of the country were approved by the president. At the same time, a fourth block was awarded to the consortium made up of the Italian group ENI (34%), Sasol (25.5%) and Statoil (25.5%).

An agreement will also be signed between the government and Rosneft and ExxonMobil. This follows the results of a license round organized by Mozambique in 2015. Rosneft and ExxonMobil were awarded three license zones: A5-B in the Angoche Basin and Z5-C and Z5-D in the Zambezi Delta in that round.
