Mozambique plans to sign an agreement with Rosneft and ExxonMobil on the exploration of natural gas fields in northern Mozambique by the end of the year.
Mozambican foreign minister, José Pacheco, said that the idea is to sign the agreement later this year to start the development of natural gas fields with the participation of the two firms. Pacheco’s statement followed a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
The Russian and US firm were awarded three blocks by Mozambique’s National Oil Institute in 2015. Two of the blocks are located in the Zambezi basin of central Mozambique and the third is located in the Angoche basin.
