ExxonMobil Continues to Evaluate Equa G Discovery

Sunday, March 4, 2018

ExxonMobil continues to evaluate its December 2017 discovery offshore Equatorial Guinea, the Avestruz-1 well. The well was drilled on Block EG-06 which is located adjacent to the Zafiro field.

The government of Equatorial Guinea has partnered with ExxonMobil in Block EG-06 through a 20% stake held by the national oil company, GE Petrol.

The government of Equatorial Guinea revealed the discovery in mid-December with the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons saying that the US firm was assessing the commerciality potential of the Avestruz-1.

“Equatorial Guinea’s partnership with ExxonMobil continues to yield new oil discoveries, testifying to the huge potential in this country and our enabling environment for oil and gas exploration,” said Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima at the time of the discovery. “We hope that commerciality will be established at Avestruz-1 and look forward to seeing more developments in the areas surrounding Block B.”
