ExxonMobil FID on Mozambique Up-in-the-Air

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

According to various media reports, the final investment decision (FID) for the mega Rovuma LNG development in Mozambique expected this week, may not come. The Mozambican government had expected the announcement to come during an industry event being held October 8, but reports have it that the partners have decided to hold off.

Exxon and partners in the Offshore Area 4 project – ENI, Korea Gas and China National Petroleum Corp. – are expected to announce a consortia of contractors for the project, enabling it to start some construction, prior to the FID being made, according to some reports.

Updates are expected to come later Tuesday after meetings at the event take place.

The development plan for the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project specifies the proposed design and construction of two liquefied natural gas trains, which will each produce 7.6 million tons of LNG per year along with the Coral Floating LNG project,
