FIDs for Mozambique Gas Projects Coming Soon

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

The African LNG industry can look forward to a final investment decision (FID) being taken in March or April on Mozambique’s massive offshore natural gas block, according to the chairman of the East African country’s national oil company ENH, Omar Mitha said.

ENH, one of the partners on Offshore Area 1, is the first member of the partnership to give a timeline for the FID.

“One of the Indian companies has already signed a share and purchase agreement for the gas … The first molecules will come to India by 2024,” Mitha said. The location of Mozambique is strategic for Indian imports of natural gas and it does not have the geopolitical challenges of the Middle East, Mitha said.

The Area 1 FID is not the only investment decision planned for this year, over on Area 4 where ENI is the operator, an FID is expected to be taken by July, according to Mitha.
