Fighting Continues in South Sudan

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Fighting continues in South Sudan between government and rebel forces near the Paloch oilfields. According to reports four people were killed when two mortar bombs hit a UN compound and a site housing civilians.

The continued fighting follows the take over and shut down of the Paloch oilfields the previous day by rebel forces. The fighters also captured a refinery that was under construction in Melut.

The South Sudanese government denies the takeover of the refinery construction site by rebel forces stating that it was still held by the government.

The UN has called on both sides to immediately cease all military operations.
