Due to the increased violence in Libya more and more foreign firms and governments are closing or preparing to close operations in the country. The US has its embassy staff on standby to evacuate while Saudi Arabia closed its embassy and evacuated its diplomats on May 19.
Turkey also temporarily closed its consulate in Benghazi, a spokesman said, citing security threats.
Neighboring country Algeria’s state-run oil firm Sonatrach has ordered its workers back over the border. According to reports an estimated 50 Sonatrach workers were working in Libya, and all will be going back to Algeria. The Algerian government also sent a special forces team into Tripoli to evacuate its ambassador back to Algeria and embassy staff following threats, according to Reuters.
