The president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni and the Tanzanian Foreign Affairs Minister, Augustine Mahiga(representing Tanzania’s President John Joseph Magufuli), laid the foundation stone at the starting point of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in Uganda’s Hoima district.
The ceremony took place where the first pumping station to transport crude oil to Tanga Port in Tanzania is to be constructed. The $3.55-billion heated oil pipeline will transport Ugandan crude an estimated 1,445 km to export through the Tanzanian port.
At the ceremony President Museveni thanked the government of Tanzania for giving Uganda the concession to enable the oil pipeline to use the Tanga route. On behalf of President Magufuli, Minister Mahiga hailed President Museveni for being a true Pan Africanist.
