GAIL Interested in Ophir’s Tanzania Assets

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

There has been talk that India’s state-run gas utility GAIL India is interested in picking up a portion of assets in Tanzania held by Ophir energy. GAIL’s marketing head Prabhat Singh said it was in talks with Ophir for a share of its stake.

“There are various options. We are negotiating with them,” Singh told reporters, without elaborating how much stake GAIL would like to buy.

Ophir just recently entered into an agreement to sell a 20% stake in its Tanzanian blocks to Pavilion Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore investment company Temasek. The deal will give Pavilion access to Ophir’s stakes in Blocks 1, 3, and 4.
