Galp Comes Up Dry Offshore Morocco

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

The TAO-1 exploration was officially deemed a no show in regards to encountering hydrocarbons. The well was drilled on the Tarfaya Block offshore Morocco by operator Galp Energia.

The well was designed to optimally test the Trident Prospect in carbonates of Middle Jurassic age. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,518 meters MD and did not encounter favorable reservoir quality at Trident.

As previously reported by Galp’s JV partner, Tangiers Petroleum, no hydrocarbon shows were encountered at Assaka, the youngest secondary objective in the Upper Jurassic.

The TAO-1 well will now be plugged and abandoned and exploration results will be integrated into the regional basin analysis by the JV partners to further evaluate and assess the prospectivity of the Tarfaya Offshore Blocks 1-VIII.
