Sunday, May 6, 2018

Companies who have been shortlisted by the Gambian government for access to acreage, both onshore and offshore the country, should learn the fate of their bids by mid-year. The government offered up two onshore licenses, A3 and A6, as well as offshore blocks A1 and A4.

Blocks A1 and A4 are currently the subject of arbitration between the government and African Petroleum.

The Gambian government shortlisted 11 companies, although the government statement issued revealed that 22 companies expressed interest in offshore oil blocks making it easy to foresee many potential partnerships and farm outs.

Firms that were shortlisted include France’s Total, Italy’s ENI and two affiliates of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Australian juniors Far Ltd. and Talon Petroleum, U.K.-based Impact Oil and Gas, Sweden Svenska Petroleum and a joint venture of U.K.-based Tullow Oil and Australia’s Woodside Energy were also shortlisted.
