Gas Exports to Rise in Algeria

Monday, July 31, 2017

Sonatrach said on July 27 that Algerian gas exports are on the rise. Company CEO, Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, told reporters that his country’s natural gas exports should reach 54 Bcm this year, up from the 51 Bcm of 2016.

Kaddour was speaking to reporters on a visit to the Hasi R’mel gas field. He said the boost in 2017 would come from two fields coming onstream, the new Reggane and Touat fields.

Kaddour went on to say that it was going to be“very hard” to meet both growing domestic demand and export needs for clients, mainly European markets.

“We do have a shortage of 50 million cubic meters per day that we need to find somewhere,” he said. “We have to make deals with EU clients, but the key point remains to have the commodity available.”

He said Algeria was not only focusing on Europe as a key gas client, but also looking for other clients elsewhere.
