GoM Incident Leaves One Dead

Thursday, October 22, 2015

A rig accident in the GoM on the Chevron-operated Keathley Canyon Block 96 left one dead. The rig, the Pacific Santa Ana, was working for Chevron under a five-year contract. The US major confirmed that one worker was fatally injured.

The Pacific Santa Ana had just begun drilling operations for Chevron in about 4,800 ft of water at the site and had not yet penetrated the sea floor when the incident happened. Chevron said that drilling operations have been shut down, and that no other injuries were reported.

Officials with the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement and the US Coast Guard have launched an investigation into the incident.
