AMSTERDAM, Oct. 24, 2014 – Weatherford International plc today announced the xQuartzPT™ gauge as the latest technology available in its line of hybrid HPHT gauges designed to advance extreme service applications.
Continuous acquisition of real-time pressure and temperature data is critical to optimize long-term well and asset performance—especially in subsea wells and extreme HPHT land environments. Hybrid electronic quartz technology enables implementing life-of-well pressure and temperature monitoring systems. Yet the track record for quartz gauges in subsea and HPHT environments has been less than optimal.
To move the industry forward, Weatherford introduces its new xQuartzPT™ gauge that uses the latest hybrid and downhole communications technology, plus the most comprehensive qualification testing in the industry. This gauge is rated significantly higher for continuous operating temperature and achieves low drift and long-term stability in extreme wellbore environments. The unique gauge design has fewer electronic components, a reduced power draw, and a robust data interface protocol for enhanced reliability and service life. Thus, the xQuartzPT gauge can withstand severe combined stresses, including pressure, temperature, shock, and vibration. Its design mean time to failure (MTTF) is 25 years.
These performance characteristics are an important consideration in HPHT land and offshore wells, and particularly in deepwater plays. The xQuartzPT gauge is the result of Weatherford experience with both electronic and optical downhole gauges deployed in a wide variety of applications in thousands of wells around the world. The new gauge supports permanent monitoring applications in environments of up to 392°F (200°C) and 25,000 psi (1,724 bar), while providing a high pressure resolution of up to 0.006 psi (0.000414 bar) at 1-second intervals for 10,000 psi full scale.
The xQuartzPT gauge is the latest addition to the Weatherford nGauge™ portfolio of piezoresistive electronics, quartz, and optical gauge solutions. The gauge products are part of the OmniWell® production and reservoir monitoring solution platform for pressure, thermal, flow, and seismic measurements. Weatherford is a leader in permanent downhole sensing with more than 5,500 gauges installed globally.
