The FID for South Africa’s offshore Ibhubesi gas project should see a FID in early-2015, according to Sunbird Energy. The investment could run between 12-14 billion rand.
The Ibhubesi is expected to produce 28.3 Bcf per year once it comes onstream.
The field is South Africa’s largest undeveloped gas field with 540 Bcf of proven and probable natural gas reserves. Phase 1 of the project is designed to exploit proven reserves of 210 Bcf.
The Phase 1 development concept includes the drilling of production wells to be tied back to a CPF with a 400-km export pipeline capable of delivering gas to sales points at Saldanha and Atlantis north of Cape Town.
