Islamists Behead 10 in Mozambique

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

According to reports, on Sunday 10 people were beheaded in northern Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province known for its petroleum and mining activities.

“There are 10 citizens who have been hideously killed,” Inacio Dina, the national police spokesman, said at a news conference in Maputo.

Officials are blaming suspected Islamists for the killings in which the attackers used machetes on their victims. Children were among the dead.

This latest attack follows a series of brutal killings over the past few months by a local Islamist group known as al-Shabaab (not linked to Somali’s terrorist of the same name). Seven people were also killed in May.
