Italian Prosecutors Investigate Shell in Nigerian Deal

Friday, April 1, 2016

Royal Dutch Shell is being investigated by Italian prosecutors over allegations of international corruption in relation to a deal in Nigeria. The deal also involved Italian firm ENI, who has faced investigations over the deal by Italian authorities since 2014.

The Nigerian deal in question revolves around the two firms’ $1.3-billion acquisition of Nigeria’s OPL-245 offshore oil block in 2011.

Shell declined to comment. ENI has denied any wrongdoing in the case.
