Itron’s 3E prepayment vending system passes STS6 certification testing

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Jan. 31, 2018 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that its 3E prepayment vending system, which serves the vast African prepayment sector, has received STS6 certification from the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) Association.

STSprepayment meters from all suppliers will be affected by a technical change known as Token Identifier (TID) roll over or “zero reset” beginning in November 2024. In order to prevent this change from disrupting operation of STS prepayment systems, meters and tokens must comply with the STS6 standard. These meters require a key change token, which upgrades the meter key to the STS6 standard. Itron’s prepayment system upgrade to STS6 compliance allows Itron to proceed with the process of upgrading meters.

With this certification, Itron’s 3E prepayment system is in compliance with the standard and will not be impacted by the roll over reset. As a leader in the STS prepayment market, with a large number of STS prepayment meters under management in Africa, Itron’s 3E prepayment system will ensure our customers are prepared for this change in advance and their operations will not be disrupted.

“Our goal is to provide world-class solutions that help our customers better manage energy with technologies that are adaptable to changing requirements,” said Chris Beale, director of electricity solutions marketing. “With these changes and certification, our prepayment system will continue to deliver reliable access to affordable energy for consumers.”
