Jonathan Approves New Polytechnic in Rivers State

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas in Bonny, Rivers State. The approval came with a takeoff grant of N1 billion for the Polytechnic to commence academic activities.

Jonathan also approved the appointment of Professor Elijah Tamuno Iyagba as Rector, while Willabo A. Gilbert is to serve as Registrar. The president further approved the appointment of Akpomeyoma Gabriel as Bursar and Ata John Woke Ajala as Polytechnic Librarian, a statement from the office of the Supervising Minister of Education said.

According to the release, Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike described the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic as a practical expression of Jonathan’s commitment to improving access to tertiary education, creation of employment, and empowering Nigerian youths with the necessary skills to contribute to national development.

The minister also went on to say that no previous administration in the history of the nation has contributed to educational advancement the way the Jonathan administration has done since 2011.
