Juba Ends Talks with Total

Thursday, July 26, 2018

South Sudan and Total have ended their discussions regarding two oil blocks. The talks were called off by the Juba government when the two failed to agree on the duration of the exploration period and the commercial terms of the PSA.

According to a statement from Juba’s petroleum ministry the talks were called off, paving the way for South Sudan to garner interest from other investors who have expressed a desire to explore acreage.

Total, alongside two other oil companies, has been in talks with the country’s government about developing the area called B1 and B2 since 2013.

“The Ministry of Petroleum regrets that negotiations with Total have concluded in no deal,” Petroleum Minister Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth said in the statement. “But (it) looks forward to bringing new investors into talks for these licenses.”
