Juba in Control of Oil Fields

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

South Sudan reported on March 2 that it was in control of its main producing oil fields in the Upper Nile state now and foreign workers have returned to the fields. Stephen Dhieu Dau, the petroleum minister for South Sudan, speaking at the site of an oil complex and key crude oil processing facility near Paloch said “I’m here to assure that the government is in full control of the situation in Upper Nile and in particular the oil fields.”

The country’s production has been hit by fighting in the country between government forces and rebels led by former vice president Riek Machar. Production is down about one-third prior to the outbreak in violence in December.

Juba in some reports say its fields are producing at a rate of 175,000 bpd, while others tag production levels at between 160,000 and 165,000 bpd.
