Kenya’s Election Commission Replaces Staff for Re-run

Thursday, September 7, 2017

Kenya’s election commission has put a different set of staff members in charge of its planned re-run of its nullified August election. The re-run of the election, whose results were set aside by the East African country’s Supreme Court, will be held on October 17.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman WafulaChebukati said in a statement that it had appointed for three months a project coordinator and officials to run the information technology, logistics, operations and training as well as the national tallying center during the re-run.

“The appointment takes immediate effect,” Chebukati said.

The news of the change of staff comes shortly after opposition leader RailaOdinga said his coalition would not participate in the re-run unless some officials were removed.
