After finds in Tanzania and Mozambique, Kenya’s petroleum secretary Davis Chirchir said that the country was looking to ramp up efforts to adopt the required legislation to help spur interest. Petroleum secretary Davis Chirchir said that while there was not an exact time frame for when the natural gas regulations would be released, he did confirm that it was imperative to “finish the document, confirm from the industry players that they are happy with it, and take it through the legislative process.”
The previous petroleum laws will be ineffective once the new regulations are released. He said, “We are really behind in terms of timelines. The extractive industry in Kenya today, based on the announcements that have been made, is ahead of legislation, is ahead of the policy frameworks.”
