South Sudan has been given a new deadline for the shut down of the pipeline that takes its crude production north for export. Sudan, following meditation, said it will extend a deadline to allow the flow of oil from South Sudan until September 6.
“There will be an extension to the flow of South for two extra weeks until Sept. 6,” the Sudanese state news agency said.
Sudan is currently the only outlet for production from South Sudan. The government in Khartoum has given the government in Juba a number of deadlines but they have all been extended.
Khartoum wants to bar production from the south from flowing through its pipelines because it says Juba has been supporting anti-Khartoum rebels operating across their border. South Sudan of course denies the claims.
