The crew members kidnapped by pirates off the coast of Nigeria three weeks ago have been released according to Greece’s Foreign Ministry. The Maltese-flagged Kalamos crude carrier was on its way to the main oil terminal in Nigeria on February 3 when it was attacked; pirates killed the ship’s Greek deputy captain and kidnapped the three crew members.
According to the Greek Foreign Ministry spokesman, Konstantinos Koutras, the three men are all safe. Koutras declined to comment any further on their release however. “We have asked the Greek ambassador in Nigeria to offer them accommodation and assist them with everything they need,” said Koutras.
