International heavy weight Konecranes is embarking on a major drive into sub-Saharan Africa. The company, which has 636 service branches in 50 countries around the world, manufactures a wide range of cranes and hoists ranging from 2000 ton portal cranes right down to manual chain and lever hoists.
Konecranes manufactures tailor-made designs for Overhead Cranes, Crane Kits, Electric Hoists, Jib Cranes, Portal Cranes, Container Handling Cranes, Stackers and associated Materials Handling Equipment as well as Ship to Shore Container Cranes.
Konecranes also offers a comprehensive crane service portfolio for all makes of cranes and hoists in various customer industries. A fully stocked, one-stop parts Distribution Centre was recently established in Johannesburg, servicing the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.
Lifting capacities of Konecranes hoists range between 60 kg to 80 tons. The hoists are extremely versatile and reliable – and as a result of these two outstanding features Konecranes unique CXT electric wire rope hoists are now the most bought electric wire rope hoists in the world.
Exclusive to Konecranes are several test and survey tools, such as the Rope and Rail Q and the Truconnect Remote Monitoring system which provide accurate feedback to customers on the state of their lifting equipment. The company also developed smart ‘thinking’ cranes such as the Smarton cranes which can lift from 6.3 to 250 tons with a single trolley and up to 500 tons with two trolleys.
From its African headquarters in Johannesburg, Konecranes have already supplied lifting equipment and services to Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, DRC, Kenya, Mauritius and Mozambique, creating partnerships with key players in Southern Africa.
Konecranes comes with 80 years of international expertise and has 12,100 employees and 420 000 cranes under Service Contract. Over 1.7 million service calls were made last year.
