The rig contracted to drill the Cedrela-1 exploration well off Ghana, Transocean Marianas, has been temporarily sidelined due to an anchor handling incident. The rig was under contract to ENI for drilling on the Offshore Cape Three Points. The incident occurred when the rig was making preparations to leave the block to drill for another operator.
Kosmos Energy was expecting the Transocean Marianas to arrive onsite at the West Cape Three Points Block to drill the Cedrela-1 well on or about July 10. In light of the incident Kosmos has declared a force majeure and given notice to the government of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corp. due to the delay in the rig’s scheduled arrival at the Cedrela-1 well location.
The US independent has begun a search for a substitute drilling rig and intends to drill the Cedrela-1 well when either the Transocean Marianas or an alternative rig becomes available. The company has the necessary approvals to drill the Cedrela-1 well and anticipates that a rig will be available soon.
