KPC Issues Tender

Tuesday, April 3, 2018

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) issued a tender for the pipeline modification that connects onshore oil storage tanks to Mombasa port to the ship loading facility in the Indian Ocean. The company wants to incorporate a heating system that will facilitate the flow of oil into the tanks of tankers.

Joe Sang, the CEO of KPC said,“The anticorrosion coating of the pipeline will be replaced by a coating adapted to higher temperatures and the pipe will also be insulated to minimize heat loss on the ground.”

This call for tenders is part of the government’s efforts to launch, as soon as possible, exports of crude produced by Tullow Oil Corp and its partners in the Turkana region. Kenya was originally supposed to see pilot production flows in June 2017, however Nairobi announced that production would be delayed until the amendment of the oil code by senators.

Production of 2,000 bpd will be trucked from the Turkana fields to the port of Mombasa. The country has proven reserves of 750 million barrels of oil.
