Partners on Namibia’s Kudu development should take the FID on the project before the end of the year. The news was revealed by Petroleum Training and Education Fund (Petrofund) CEO, Nillian Mulemi, and executive for Human Capital and Strategic Development for Namcor, Maryke Krohne, who were speaking to an industry event in London last week.
The Kudu gas project is seen as one of the keys to Namibia diverting its looming energy crisis. The project has been on the books for sometime but has stalled, with partners coming and going over the years. The latest firm to sign up for the Kudu is BW Offshore who acquired a majority stake in February.
The gas produced from the Kudu Gas Field will be transported through a 170 km pipeline to a power station that will be built and situated at Uubvlei, approximately 25 km north of Oranjemund in the southern part of Namibia.
Namcor and its partners will be responsible for drilling production wells, installation of subsea equipment, installation of the floating production system, gas production, and conditioning and transportation of the gas to the power plant.
