The development of Uganda’s oil resources should see some movement soon according to reports out of the country. According to the head of Uganda’s state-run Petroleum Exploration and Production department, Ernest Rubondo, Ugandan regulators are in the final stages of evaluating proposed field development plans for ten oilfields in the Lake Albertine Rift Basin.
“Tullow has to date submitted field development plans and petroleum reservoir reports for eight discoveries,” Rubondo told Dow Jones Newswires.
“Government has reviewed these submissions and is in discussion with Tullow with regard to content of these submissions,” Rubondo added without elaborating further.
An official with Uganda’s energy and minerals ministry told the wire service most of the licenses were likely to be approved within the next six months.
In September 2013 Tullow’s partner CNOOC was awarded the first production license for its Kingfisher development. The Kingfisher development should produce at a rate of between 30,000-40,000 bpd of oil when it comes onstream.
