Last Mubarak Conviction Overturned

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak saw the country’s high court overturn the only remaining conviction against him. The overturning of the guilty verdict for diverting funds could pave the way for Mubarak’s release from the military hospital where he has been serving his sentence.

Mubarak was sentenced to three years for the diverting public funds charge. It is said he used the money to upgrade family properties.

At this time Mubarak is still being detained in the military hospital but he is not expected to remain for long with no convictions against him remaining. There is supposed to be a retrial of the embezzlement case, but it is unknown when or if that will happen.
