Liberia Could See ExxonMobil Spud

Thursday, June 4, 2015

The unofficial force majeure that Liberia has seen on exploration due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus in 2014 may be coming to an end for partners ExxonMobil and Canadian Overseas Petroleum Ltd. (COPL). According to COPL it, along with ExxonMobil, are committed to completing their work program in Liberia on offshore Block LB-13.

COPL revealed that the partners, along with state-run oil firm NOCAL, meet regularly to discuss operations and the fulfillment of the LB-13 work program, which was delayed by the Ebola crisis. The government says it acted under the terms of the PSC to provide the partners with sufficient time to complete their work program and will extend the current exploration period if necessary.

Now that Liberia has been declared Ebola-free by the WHO, ExxonMobil is planning its next steps for operations, COPL said.
