ExxonMobil Corp. should begin drilling offshore Liberia in late-2016 or early-2017 the company said, reiterating its timeline revealed in September. The US supermajor is operator of Block 13.
Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said ExxonMobil’s plans were a sign of economic recovery after the Ebola epidemic put exploring for reserves offshore the country by a number of firms on hold.
“I am very excited to see Exxon Mobil here,” Sirleaf said after a meeting with the company. “Their presence demonstrates to the world that Liberia is once more on the move.”
