ENI’s Bouri field offshore Libya is producing almost 40,000 bpd currently and plans are in the works to add another 15,000 bpd to that within six months. The increase in production will come from the launch of new drilling technology.
The Bouri field is run by the Mellitah Oil & Gas Co., a JV made up of ENI and NOC.
Being offshore the field has not experienced shut ins that Libya’s onshore fields have seen. “There were some requests from employees for compensation for a certain period of time but we sorted it out so there is no strike, no stop in production,” said Abdulhadi Ghrabali, the field’s top manager in a Reuters report.
The JV company is introducing new drilling technology with the aid of Schlumberger. Pressure on some wells had become too low after being in use for many years Ghrabali said. “We have to convert the wells from natural flow category to … electric submersible pumps,” Ghrabali told Reuters. Within six months, some 12 wells would be upgraded which would boost output by between 12,000 bpd and 15,000 bpd.
