Libya Needs Unity Government to Tackle ISIS

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

According to NOC chairman, Mustafa Sanalla, the country needs to approve the UN-back unity government or more attacks on Libya’s oil facilities are likely.

Sanalla told Reuters that ISIS militants hit one oilfield just last week, setting fire to one production tank and damaging another at the Fida oil field.

The Fida oil field is near the oil terminals of oil terminals of Es Sider and Ras Lanuf, where militants launched repeated assaults and inflicted major damage last month.

The North African country’s oil production has taken a major hit over the past few years due to the insecurity and ongoing battles; currently its production sits at about 360,000-370,000 bpd Sanalla said.
