Libya Warns Against Dealing with Tripoli Government

Monday, September 21, 2015

Companies dealing with Libya’s unofficial government in Tripoli instead of the internationally recognized government in Tobruk, will be punished according to a Bloomberg report. Oil firms operating in the war torn North African country must register with the National Oil Corp. controlled by the Tobruk government, Deputy Prime Minister Abdussalam Elbadri said at a conference Malta.

According to a Bloomberg interview with NOC chairman Nagi Elmagrabi the state-run firm will refuse to renew the contracts of any companies that don’t support the elected government.

“We will send letters to all the international companies that operate in Libya asking them to deal with the internationally recognized and legal government,” Elmagrabi said. “We will take measures based on their respective replies to the letter. If they continue to decline to cooperate with the legal government, we will stop their loadings once their contracts expire.”
