Libya’s two warring factions, the internationally recognized government and the government that took over Tripoli, have agreed to participate in a new round of negotiations backed by the UN. The meeting is expected to take place in Geneva next week.
The meeting was arranged when UN envoy Bernardino Leon met with rival parties in Libya.
“In order to create a conducive environment for the dialogue, Special Representative Leon has proposed to the parties to the conflict a freeze in military operations for a few days,” the UN said in a statement.
It was not clear who would be participating in the talks, nor did the statement offer an exact date.
