Libyan Insecurity Causes Petrol Lines

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Due to the lack of production and insecurity in Libya its citizens are having to wait in long lines at petrol stations. Reports have the country receiving three tankers with fuel imports but unfortunately the lack of security is making it hard to get these supplies to consumers, the state-run oil firm NOC said.

“There is no problem with supplies but with security and heavy traffic. Some petrol station owners are worried about a lack of security at their stations as people queue,” Fathi al-Hasmi, spokesman for Brega Petroleum Marketing Company, a state firm in charge of distributing fuel in Libya said in a Reuters report.

The government has been having trouble keeping its Zawiya refinery supplied following protesters closing the El Sharara field that connects to it. It said it might have to use crude from its two offshore fields, the Al Jorf and Bouri, however, this would take away its much needed export funds.
