The parliament based in eastern Libya voted against a motion of confidence in the UN-back Government of National Accord (GNA). This is the first time since January that the parliament has gotten together to vote.
The GNA has been trying to receive an endorsement from the East’s parliament for a number of months and the vote of no confidence is a blow to the GNA.
When the parliament met in January it rejected an initial list of ministers put forward by the GNA’s leadership.
According to a Reuters report, many of the GNA supporters did not attend the vote and had previously complained that opponents used physical force and threats to prevent votes from taking place.
Spokesman Abdallah Bilhaq said 101 deputies had attended the session, with 61 voting against the GNA, 39 abstaining, and just one voting in favor.
