The Faregh field development Phase 2 is to boost daily production capacity to a quarter-billion cubic feet of gas and 15,000 barrels of condensates
In an important step toward achieving the production targets of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Waha Oil Company (WOC) announced the beginning of operating tests of the Phase 2 of the Faregh field development project, starting on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 to pump gas to the Intisar 103 field. At a later date, gas will be shipped to the coastal network, to which the field is connected. This step is a significant achievement of NOC and WOC to serve Libyans and the national economy.
Faregh’s gas will be used to increase the efficiency of crude oil production at the Intisar 103 field and could supply the power plants in the Eastern Region, replacing subsidized liquid fuel, a measure that is both cost-saving and environmentally friendly. The project will also increase gas supply to methanol plants and the Libyan Norwegian Fertilizer Company (LifeCo) in Marsa El Brega.
NOC is awaiting the General Company for Gas Transmission & Distribution’s completion of gas pipeline installations to connect the Faregh field with the Sarir power plant, carried out in collaboration with Petrojet, an Egyptian company.
Faregh field’s gas production capacity stood at 70 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (Mmscf/d) during Phase 1, and is set to increase by 180 Mmscf/d in the next two weeks – bringing the total quantity of gas to be pumped from Faregh field to approximately a quarter billion Mmscf/d by November 2019, in addition to the production of 15,000 barrels of condensates.
NOC chairman Eng. Mustafa Sanalla said: “WOC has finally overcome difficulties to complete this vital project after long delays caused by shutdowns and unstable security conditions in the country. I congratulate WOC management and employees for their achievement.”
“NOC will continue to take steady steps towards our objectives – conditional on improved security, as well as timely and adequate financing and investment,” added the chairman.
Ahmed Abdallah Ammar, chairman of WOC’s Management Committee, said: “I would like to thank all WOC employees for their hard work, as well as NOC for its continuous support to complete this project.”
