Libya’s Revised Unity Government Named

Monday, February 15, 2016

A revised unity government lineup has been named by Libya’s Presidential Council after the parliament. The unity government is being formed under a UN-backed agreement between battling contingents in the war torn North African country.

In a statement that was broadcast on television, council member Fathi al Majbari said a list of 13 ministers and five ministers of state had been sent to Libya’s eastern parliament for approval. A document posted on the Presidential Council’s website said that two of the council’s nine members refused for a second time to sign off on the proposed government.

“We call on Libyans suffering from the fighting … and the members of parliament to support the Government of National Accord, which will provide the framework to fight terrorism,” Majbari said.

In January the eastern parliament rejected the initial proposal for a unity government, complaining that too many ministers had been nominated.
