Lifted Sanctions Boosts Sudan’s Oil Plan

According to reports coming out of Abu Dhabi from the ADIPEC event held November 13-16, Sudan is not only touting its oil industry but also in talks with international oil firms.

Since the United States lifted sanctions on Sudan on October 12, and removed its name from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, the country has been promoting its oil industry to the West. According to Minister of Oil Abdul Rahman Osman, the country and has been in talks with Western oil firms as well as Russian firm Lukoil.

Osman also told reporters on the sidelines of ADIPEC that some companies are interested in looking at is natural gas potential as well as oil. These projects are onshore and offshore in the Red Sea.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan’s visit to Khartoum and his talks with Sudanese officials on Saturday resulted in the beginning of the second phase of the constructive engagement plan to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries. Continued dialogue between the countries in working toward normalizing relations, could signal a stabilized investment environment for global oil and gas companies.
