LNG-Powered Power Generation Plant for Nigeria

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Wärtsilä was selected by Nigerian cement manufacturer BUA Group to install a 48-MW power generation plant (based on Smart Power Generation technology) to power a new cement production line at Sokoto, in northwestern Nigeria. This plant will operate without grid connection, using LNG.

The plant will be equipped with five Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines that will have the option of switching to light fuel oil (LPFO) if necessary.

In fact, BUA is aiming for a much lower environmental impact than the electricity plants supplying the two cement production lines at Sokoto.

Wärtsilä equipment is expected to be delivered by the end of 2019 and the new line is expected to be operational by mid-2020.
