Met Office to join NiMet at NOG 2015

Friday, February 27, 2015

The Met Office and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) are showcasing the services they provide, which offer significant benefits to the Nigerian offshore oil and gas industry, at this year’s Nigeria Oil & Gas conference and exhibition.

NiMet became a government agency in 2003 to advise the Federal Government on all aspects of meteorology. The alliance – formed in 2014 – supports NiMet in developing its meteorological and service delivery capabilities in providing metocean weather products and services to the Nigerian offshore oil and gas industry. The collaboration combines NiMet’s local expertise with the Met Office’s world-leading weather and climate science.

As Nigeria’s appointed provider of weather and climate services, NiMet is developing offshore services as part of the Government’s ‘Transformation Agenda’. The alliance between the Met Office and NiMet draws on the Met Office’s extensive 40-year experience and expertise in how weather and climate can impact offshore oil and gas operations. NiMet is able to align the Met Office’s expertise with its national meteorological archive and unrivalled local knowledge.
