More Than 50 Dead in Western Desert Clashes

Egyptian security forces and suspected Islamist militants clashed in the country’s Western Desert near the Bahariya oasis, leaving more than 50 security personnel dead. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the militants opened fire on the group during a raid on their hideout.

Fifteen militants were also killed in the attack.

A security source quoted by local news outlets said their convoy came under attack by militants using rocket-propelled grenades and explosive devices.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the killingsas yet.
