Morocco is reportedly shutting down its only refinery, Societe Anonyme Marocaine de l’Industrie du Raffinage (SAMIR). The refinery, located in Mohammedia, is being closed, at least temporarily, due to financial difficulties.
“The crude oil supply from the refinery will record a delay due to the financial difficulties of the company. This delay will result in the temporary shutdown of production units,” SAMIR said in a press release.
The company’s delivery of refined products will continue according to available stocks until the full resumption of production units, expected sometime in the middle of August.
Two shipments of two million barrels of oil are expected to arrive in Mohammedia between August 15 and 18, according to the commitments made by suppliers.
The company said it will keep the market informed of any developments to this situation.
