Morupule B Expansion Put on Hold

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

The planned expansion of Botswana’s Morupule B coal-fired power plant being undertaken by Marubeni Corp and Posco Energy has been put on hold. The $800-million expansion project has stalled due to a disagreement over terms, Botswana’s Minister of Energy Sadique Kebonang was quoted as saying in a Reuters report.

Work on the expansion project was expected to start a year ago but nothing has been done to date.

Work by Marubeni and Posco Energy is supposed to add 300 MW to the current 600 MW Morupule B plant.
